4 Wild Winter Teas and a Chocolate Drink — 16 Comments

  1. love the Wild Winter Teas blog!!!
Funnily, in a New England Flora class, I had heard the same ‘scurvey’ story, but the plant was Arborvitae…tree of life!!!
    Keep writing Janet!
I’m learning so much from you!

    • You’re right, Bobbye, arborvitae is one of the trees that might have been used. It too is high in vitamin C. I read that the Iroquois might have used several different trees for Vit. C. Thanks for your comment!

  2. I would have liked to see pictures of the pine needles along with the receipt, just to know which one you were cooking with.

  3. vitamin C is destroyed by heat, so how does it fix scurvy? something else then must be doing that

    • Vitamin C declines gradually as food is cooked, so cooked food usually still retains some of its vitamin C.. It does not disappear all at once as soon as you heat the food. So it is possible to fix scurvy with cooked food.

  5. Thank you for sharing. I have just started to learn about foraging and want to start making more teas. I have used ginseng and peppermint so far.
